Passion & Warfare

I’ve been a huge fan of Steve Vai ever since I heard his first album, Passion & Warfare, back in 1990. 15 years ago the idea of seeing him live seemed impossible. Last weekend, this particular dream came true.

Steve Vai live

It probably sounds like an exaggeration, but it really meant a lot to me.

My brother was in charge of digital camera battery charging duty, which he savagely neglected. I was lucky the camera would start and even take pictures, but the it would shut down as soon as I turned on the LCD screen to aim. My solution was to just blindly shoot pictures at the stage, under the assumption that some of them would end up OK. The result: I have 46 (!) pictures of stage illumination, and about 15 pictures of the band, of which abou 6 are reasonably framed, with no cut-off heads or extraneous crowd elements.

Considering the circumstances, I’m highly satisfied with the outcome. Steve played for a bit over three hours, and the opening act (Eric Sardinas) was great as well. I’d have to say I enjoyed this concert more than the U2 one. Now I just need to see Prince in concert, and I can die a happy man…

Now that the envy is over, I have a question. What songs did he played??

He played everything. Did an acoustic set, solos for all the bandmembers, and a lot of stuff from the new album. I wish chito could’ve been there with me, I know he’d enjoyed it almost as much as I did.

Yeah, I wish I could´ve been there. I certenly would have enjoyed it. Specially the new album stuff, cuz I haven’t listened a single song. I saw the album on amazon and the reviews weren’t that good (at least the ones I saw) and I haven’t seen it on any store here. Also, I still have dial-up connection wich sucks big time and I don’t have the patience to downlad a whole album.
