L.A. Face With The Oakland Booty
Let’s get it out of the way:
This has to be the coolest cover song, ever.
I’m hooked and I can’t stop staring, indeed.
I recently discovered this song in my search for cover songs for an up-and-coming radio interview. It may sound like I’m selling it long, but it’s an actual, honest-to-God radio interview. It will be available by April 12th. It remains to be seen whether anything I say is intelligible. Let’s check the Magic-8 Ball…
Not fucking likely.
I’m also looking for more cover song recommendations. The eightier, the better. I already have Higher Ground by the Peppers in there, before all six of you submit the same thing at the same time.
I’ve been kind of down and in the dumper lately. I know that this doesn’t reflect any change from my previous position, so I can’t really state this as a positive or negative kind of thing. It is what it is. That doesn’t keep it from sucking. Right now, my views on life are leaning from “Carefully Optimistic” to “Emotionally Damaged”, heavy on the damage. I’ve been trying to keep my plate full, the radio show is part of it. I’m also doing a lot more writing, designing another website (collaborative effort, spanish, blah blah blah), undertaking my first forays into the dangerous world of short film scriptwriting, and trying to learn russian by the time my russian wife arrives.
(You can play Spot The Fake on the above paragraph if you feel bananas.)
Aside: I know I’m like a decade behind on this, but what the fuck is up with Gwen Stefani and that banana shit? I’m sure it makes more than one teenager happy in the pantular region, but it’s gratuitious and uncalled for. Besides that, you got nice legs, keep rocking girl.
(I was going to write “babe” instead of “girl”, and I felt the need to urbanize the phrase. Are we really that old that our slang is outdated already? Am I really that old?)
Rhetorical question, I know the answer, and it’s “Delicious”.
Baby Got Back just started playing for the 10th time on repeat. That’s my cue. If I promise to write more often, will you come back?

True, that has to be one of the coolest (if not the the coolest) cover song ever. It fucken (Irish accent) rules!!!
I have a question, regarding youre request for cover songs. You said, and I quote: “I’m also looking for more cover song recommendations. The eightier, the better.” do you mean songs written in the 80’s or songs covered by 80’s bands?
I’m asking this ’cause I have a few suggestions.

I like 80s covers, as in, modern covers of 80s songs. Don’t take it too seriously: as long as they’re hot, they’re ok. So far, I have:
Goldfinger - 99 Red Balloons
RHCP - Higher Ground
Fountains of Wayne - Hit Me Baby One More Time
Paul Gilbert - Dancing Queen
Angra - Kashmir
Reel Big Fish - Take On Me
Jonathan Collum - Baby Got Back
Prince - Every Day is a Winding Road
Skid Row - Come On And Love Me
Nuno Bettencourt - Surrender
I need 18 songs total, so I’m aiming for 25 to have some wiggle room… Fire away!

Pantera - Planet Caravan (not exactly 80’s but an awesome cover nonetheless)
David Lee Roth - California Girls(same as above)
Quite Riot - Come On Feel The Noize (ditto)
Black Crowes - Hard To Handle (dèjá vu)
Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love
Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade - Shine On You Crazy Diamonds
Tesla - Sings
Faith No More - Easy / War Pigs
Van Halen - You Really Got Me
That’s all I can think as of now. More to come… or not.

About the list, I can’t help you with that. But somebody should make a Sister Christian cover ASAP.

I may get lauged out of the room with some of my recommendations, so I will first cover the bases.
Radio Show = the shit. Short Film = The shit. Buddy you are more occupied that I have ever been. You probably do more in a month than what I did between the ages of 19 and 25. Russian wife = leggy = nice.
Blind Willie - I checked her out and I was not impressed. Next time you drop some v**ina on us, please lets keep it top of the line.
The questions that revolve around what constitutes a “by the book” cover, are a little bewildering. For example, do bootlegs/live covers count? Do movie soundtracks count?
I need to know some parameters.
F it

Veeeery careful dealing with russian women. They can be as vicious as they are beautiful. It’s very well known that their sense of marriage and coexistence is shallower than a Power Ranger character. However it’s kind of a quirky source of amusement to hear more and more stories about russian mega bitches tearing men’s lives apart through a roller coaster marriage.

Maybe you like them blonde,

It might, though, be fair to say,
if you don’t like the bitch below(*)
it’s because you’re just gay.
(*) One more try, and if there is no consensus I’m out for good (Google Edel Weiss 2006 calendar).

There is a Sister Christian cover already, it’s done by Coheed and Cambria. I can hook you up if you want me to, I don’t think the hilarious castrato scream is still in there, though…
Bummer!

How ’bout Dinosaur jr’s “just like heaven”, “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man” by the Goo Goo Dolls (best prince cover evah!) Soul Asylum’s “Sexual Healing” “Against all odds” by Postal Service (kinda sad though) Backbeat Band’s “Mr Postman” “Candy Says” by Blind Melon, “Personality Crisis” by Sonic Youth and Andrés Calamaro singing “Veneno en la piel”, an 80’s classic for sure!
