So Much For The No-Internet Countdown

You just can’t plan ahead these days. I’m talking ironic here, but not getting hit by a truck the day before you embark on that oh-so-special trip you’ve been waiting for, say, your entire life, or ra-ee-ain on your wedding day. I’m talking about thinking “Oh wow, I can write about not having the internets for ten weeks! All right!”, and the week after getting a call saying that it was installed, and that I should wait for the connection kit to arrive. Of course, they lied: it was very much not installed when I got home that day, but a simple 5-minute call later I was online. I already had the next two “My life without internet” posts written and ready to go, and now this… I guess I can’t complain, I’d rather write about other things than not having internet. On the bright side of things, being able to catch up with the episodes of Conan O’Brien I’d missed makes it all worthwhile. (Just an FYI to all late-night show lovers outside the US: you can sign up to Late Byte and get torrents of all Late Night shows. If you live in the US but don’t have TiVo and want to save special moments like Cristopher Walken’s “I wish I had a tail“, they’re all there.)

Living in a first-world country has many benefits, but I still think the best one is getting decent concerts. Two weeks ago I caught Bruce Springsteen on his Seeger Sessions Band tour, and I’m not being (or not just being) hyperbolic when I declare it the Best. Concert. Ever. I’m not a huge Springsteen fan, but his latest record is Das Shiznit. Plus, I saw it as an opportunity to see Max Weinberg and motherfuckin’ La Bamba live. In any case, there were sixteen (!) musicians on-stage, and the show was a blast. I thought about heckling Springsteen during one of the quieter songs asking for La Bamba, but I didn’t want to get pelted with empty cans of non-alcoholic beer. Yes, non-alcoholic: Madrid has the dubious honor of being one of the few cities in the world where you can get beer at the movies, but not at concerts.

OK, that sucked. Somehow the spam filter stopped working over the weekend. I’ve reenabled it (*Crowd Cheers*), so we won’t be getting any more Viagra spam (*Crowd Boos*).
